History
The Center’s divisions are its Research and Collections Division located in Sid Richardson Hall Unit 2 on the UT campus in Austin along with the Institute for Studies in American Military History division; the Sam Rayburn Library and Museum located in Bonham, Texas; Winedale, located near Round Top, Texas; and the John Nance Garner Museum located in Uvalde, Texas. The Center’s Office of the Director is located in the Arno Nowotny Building also on the UT campus in Austin.
The Center’s research collection strengths are the history of Texas, the South, the Southwest, and the Rocky Mountain West, the history of the University of Texas, congressional history, and specific national-in-scope topics, including media history and the history of the professional touring entertainment industry. The Center supports research and education by acquiring, preserving, and making accessible research collections and by sponsoring exhibitions, fellowships, and grant-funded initiatives.
