Title: Student in veterans vocational training program
Description: In 1936 this man who was then nineteen years old was working in the Rio Grande Valley near Mission. He cultivated and pruned citrus fruit trees. In 1936 he moved to Corpus Christi to work on a nearby ranch driving a truck. At the outbreak of the war he was drafted. On his discharge from the army he returned to Corpus Christi with his wife and young child. Since he had only finished the third grade in school, he enrolled in night classes for veterans and finished his grade school and high school work in eight months. He was employed as a bus driver during that period. Last December he enrolled in the machine shop classes at Del Mar College for night work under the veterans vocational training program. He showed such unusual aptitude for machine work that he has since quit his bus driving job and is concentrating all his efforts on his vocational training. The instructor was unusually optimistic about his potentialities. Corpus Christi, Texas.
