Finding Items - Visual Materials
This index provides titles of CAH collections that contain photographs related to the term indexed. Most of these sources are traditional archives comprised primarily of photographs or archives that include a photographic component. Exceptions are the Prints and Photographs Collection (PPC) and the Oversize Pictures (OP) file, and the CIC (Cased Image Collection). The PPC and OP are collections of images grouped by subject. The Cased Image Collection consists of ambrotypes, daguerreotypes, tintypes and other cased images and is arranged by subject. The Visual Materials Index (VMI) is not a complete index to CAH photograph holdings.
Highlighted collection names link to online finding aids that are part of the Texas Archival Resources Online (TARO) site. You can access a highlighted collection's finding aid by clicking on the entry. This allows you to search the finding aid for the images you seek. Other finding aids exist only in paper or electronic format in-house at the Center for American History and cannot be accessed on line at this time.
