Photographic postcards became very popular in the early 1900s. The establishment of Rural Free Delivery, which brought daily mail to isolated homes and farms throughout the country, and the development by Eastman Kodak of postcard-size photographic paper spurred many commercial photographers to produce photo postcards exclusively. The wording and design of the printed labels on the back of the postcards help date those that are otherwise unidentified.
