Exhibit: Russell Lee Photographs - Politics

From his earliest work in 1935 and 1936, Russell Lee showed an interest in politics as an integral part of the human condition. His documentation of demonstrators at a labor hall advocating "Jobs for All" in New York City and supporters of President Franklin D. Roosevelt at a parade in Woodstock, New York, are early evidence of a lifelong pursuit. After moving to Texas, Lee documented the campaigns of Senator Ralph Yarborough, Governor Allan Shivers, and Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez, as well as John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign tour through Texas in 1960.
