Thomas M. Hatfield, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Studies in American Military History at the Center of American History at the University of Texas at Austin.
For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Hatfield has taught courses on American military history, emphasizing the diplomatic and strategic background of wartime events. At the same time he has pioneered the development of university based international education by organizing and leading groups of adults, as well as undergraduates, across the world. Alumni Campus Abroad in Normandy
May 18 – 26, 2009
The Normandy region of France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline - including the World War II landing beaches - with a verdant interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns, and historic landmarks such as the cities of Caen, Bayeux and Rouen. Gastronomic delights abound, from fine cheeses and pastries to cider and Calvados. You will stay for seven nights at the Grand Hotel de Cabourg in Cabourg, France, with excursions to Bayeux, the Peace Memorial in Caen, the abbey at Jumieges (a Camembert cheese producer), Mont-St.-Michel, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.

From D-Day to the Rhine
"From D-Day to the Rhine" is a two-week study of major World War II battlefields in Western Europe, with special emphasis on Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. The tour begins in London with excursions to museums, and historic and cultural sites, then crosses the channel to Normandy and continues to such major battlesites as Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Paris, Reims, Bastogne, Malmedy, and the Remagen Bridge. The trip ends in Frankfurt, Germany. No trips are planned for 2008-2009. Please email the Program Coordinator if you would like information about our next tour.
