History Pin logo set on top of a University of Texas at Austin campus map detail from di_07957

The Briscoe Center for American History is pleased to announce its participation in the social media site Historypin, joining hundreds of other institutions in sharing its images online. These photographs and documents, made accessible in digital form, provide evidence of the history of the University of Texas and Texas itself. Browsers and researchers alike will appreciate the images and the stories that accompany them.

The Briscoe Center’s channel on Historypin debuts with a selection of photos documenting the history of the University of Texas at Austin campus, as well as photographs of historic downtown Houston from the Bob Bailey Studio Photographic Archive.

Historypin is a project of the not-for-profit company We Are What We Do, in partnership with Google. In allowing users to “pin” historic photos to interactive maps, it aims to build a virtual community based on a strengthened understanding of history.
