From vintage consoles to online games and smartphones, increasingly sophisticated videogames are placed all around us by a multibillion-dollar industry. This represents a rapid historical development since the 1970s. A growing videogame archive is important, because tracing the growing significance of videogames and the videogame industry as a strand of social, cultural and technological history will undoubtedly be the pursuit of future researchers. The Briscoe Center focuses on creating endowments for strategic areas of historical interest including the history of the videogame industry. Funds for experienced, highly qualified staff will allow the center to expand the scope of the videogame archive, and enhance the accessibility of those collections to researchers and members of the public.
