Research Reference Help

We hold the copyright to many of our holdings, but not all of them. Please be aware, especially, that this site provides access to images for which the copyright is held by owners other than the Briscoe Center for American History. Any use of these images is restricted by copyright law. Where we do not hold copyright, it is the responsibility of researchers to located and secure copyright permission prior to potentially infringing uses. You can read more about copyright considerations.

Regardless of whether the Briscoe Center holds copyright, any public display of our holdings (including images from our website), such as publication in print, display on the Web, classroom teaching uses, and inclusion in a film production, must be preceded by securing permission from the Briscoe Center for American History as the physical owner of the material.

We charge fees for use of our holdings. In most cases, we also require that patrons order a high-resolution scan, a color transparency or a print.

We also require proper credit where our holdings are used. Formatting examples are available.

A complimentary copy of the final publication in any medium using reproductions of Briscoe Center for American History materials must be donated to the Briscoe Center.

To request permission to publish, display or otherwise use our material, please complete the Request for Permission to Publish or Use Reproduction of Materials and scan and email it to cah.photos@austin.utexas.edu, fax it to (512) 495-4542, or mail it to:
