Photocopies - Remote Request
Staffing constraints prevent Center staff from undertaking in-depth research for patrons, including locating and/or evaluating content for photocopying and doing exact page counts before processing orders.
The Center’s Photocopy Technicians cannot perform reference services, as it slows down the process of completing orders. If you cannot provide an exact citation or visit in person to flag exactly what materials you would like copied, and your copy request is deemed either too vague or too specific for us to take on, we can provide you with a list of proxy researchers available for hire.
We are also unable to do exact page counts before processing orders. If you have a limit on how much you are willing to spend, inform us before you place your order and we will copy up until that point, taking into account local sales taxes and handling fees.
We do accept remote requests for photocopying, but a complete citation (See Examples) must be provided with the following:
for manuscripts:
- collection name
- box number
- folder title (if any)
- exact content description
for microfilmed newspapers:
- city of publication
- title of newspaper
- frequency of publication (daily, weekly, etc.)
- a date within 2-3 days
- exact content description
- page/column numbers (if available)
for published materials:
- author
- title
- call number from UTNetCAT
- exact page numbers or content description
for vertical files:
- name of the file
- type of file (e.g. biographical, subject, Texas cities, etc.)
for newspaper morgues:
- specific topics and/or people
- which morgue you would like searched*
*To determine likely file titles, use indexes such as the New York Times Index, the Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature, or Library of Congress Subject Headings. If specific articles are not physically marked by patrons or by their proxy researchers, we will photocopy the entire clip file, with one clipping per page.
If you have an exact citation for a remote copy request, you may place your order with the Center’s Photocopy Technician:
