I mended tears along the weakened fold lines with wheat starch paste and toned Japanese tissue. I left the loss on the margin of the paper because this tear happened when the recipient opened the letter. A wax seal would have been there, and you can see here the reddish rubrick and the postal marking just around the paper loss. This picture also shows the iron gall ink used to write the letter. The ink did not appear to shift or move during treatment.
