The purpose of this curriculum unit is to teach students how to use primary source documents to gain a greater understanding of Texas history through the eyes of someone who was a part of the settlement of early Texas.

Each lesson is a complete learning experience so that teachers may choose what fits into their individual curriculums. However, to achieve the maximum amount of exposure to the different ways primary source documents are used it is suggested that all five lessons be incorporated into the curriculum, preferably in the sequence in which they are presented.
