Memorandum of a Conference between Texas, France, and Great Britain / 03-29-1845 / Anson Jones Papers
Despite the Texas Congress's declaration for joining the United States, Secretary of State Ashbel Smith met with charges from France and Great Britain. The outcome of the meeting was this memorandum that called for President Anson Jones to delay all annexation proceedings and to seek recognition of Texas' independence.
