Texas President David G. Burnet and Gen. Antonio López de Santa Anna signed two treaties on May 14, 1836, following the Mexican army's defeat at San Jacinto. The "secret" version promised Santa Anna's immediate freedom with certain qualifications. Neither Texas nor Mexico honored the treaties.
