Description: | Square black silk shawl, fades to brown towards the center. Shawl is bordered on all four sides by black fringe. Fringe has a wide band (5.5 cm) of macrame knotwork, below which hangs approximately 25 cm of fringe proper. Broken ends of macrame are white. The shawl was originally white and later dyed black by owner Judith Sims whose husband was killed in the Civil War. Judith Sims, a resident of New Orleans, later moved to Temple, Texas. Owned by Judith Sims Hughes Woods Family. Donated by Judith English Morehead, great-granddaughter of Judith Sims. |
