"I cannot thank you enough for "When I Rise." It is very effective in Texas history courses, at least the way I teach Texas history."        — Professor Philip Smith (History Faculty, A&M)

Austin, TX - The Texas Independent Film Network (TIFN) and The Austin Film Society (AFS) have chosen the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History's award-winning documentary film, When I Rise, for the first film in the TIFN’s Spring 2013 program.

When I Rise is the inspiring true story of Barbara Smith Conrad, a gifted University of Texas music student who finds herself at the epicenter of racial controversy, struggling against the odds and ultimately ascending to the heights of international opera.
